Voice coach, Speaker, Author
Cynthia discovered her calling and true passion in life back in 2010 and today, she runs a successful Voice Coaching business through which she’s helped improve the lives of people in 32 countries across five continents.
Inspired by her story, we would like to share with you some insights that Cynthia had about recognizing one’s passion in life and becoming successful at it.
When you talk to people about something and you realize you’re very excited about it, you feel energized and alert, and you strongly recommend that they try it too – that may be your passion, right there.
To me, when you do what you love to do and you’re able to help people while making good money from it – that’s the definition of success.
In my view, the key factors that contribute to one’s success are:
It’s a simple equation: if you’re not good at what you do, people don’t use your services twice.
The reason I was successful from the beginning was that I made a difference for people with my voice coaching service; the “before and after” was clear for my clients.
Also, you need to record your good results with people, so they can see the difference you’re helping them make; otherwise nobody knows about them.
A lot of my business comes from referrals; and the people that are referred to you can also become your collaborators.
My biggest fear was: if I leave this company, I don’t know anyone; so how can I possibly start a business?
So I had my first few clients… but then another fear kicked in: will I have enough clients to have a sustainable income, to sustain my business and myself?
After my NLP course, we had a gathering with my course mates and we were talking… and this guy, who was the youngest in our class, said he had started his own company.
I was shocked! I thought ‘Even he, at this young age, started a business? ! I really must take action.’ So that was the trigger for me to make the move.
Even though you have the technical skills you need to do a good job, it’s vital to constantly develop yourself as a person.
When your business reaches a certain level of success, it’s not about skills anymore; it’s about mindset. And here is where personal development comes in.
By developing yourself, you get unstuck from your current situation and you reach a higher level of awareness. Only by being at a higher level can you understand and change the things that are not working for you.
The main reason for which I took NLP was that I wanted to figure out what to do with my life; but I gained so much more!
I started to understand people better, to see them more clearly and be able to relate to what they were going through, which then enabled me to help them better.
If you want to have a better, more fulfilling career and better communication with people (which gets you better results), you need to become aware of your own strengths and weaknesses and from there acquire the necessary skills to close the gaps and move up.
We often think that when there is a communication problem, the other party is responsible. But maybe the problem is with us and we’re not even aware of it.
The reason I found out I wanted to do training is because I was in Toastmasters. In every course there are people from different trades; so talk to them and you could potentially get ideas about what you could do.
Five years from now you will be the same person with the exception of two things: the people you meet and the books you read.
These two things can open your eyes to the possibilities that exist out there for you.
If we were to sum up Cynthia’s sharing in a few key success tips, these would be:
Become good at what you do and record your good results.
Go out and make friends. Talk to people.
Start acting on your ideas, if not, someone else will.
Constantly develop yourself as a person. Once you have the skills, it’s all about mindset.
SLearn to understand people and to communicate well with them.
When faced with a problem, consider the possibility that you may be contributing to it.
Read books on topics that interest you.
